Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake
Topping Ingredients
- 2 apples, sliced thin & peeled
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ⅔ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup butter
Cake Ingredients
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup butter (soft)
- 2½ cups flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 4 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp ginger
- ½ tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 pan.
Make the topping:
- Melt butter and brown sugar in a pot.
- Pour into pan and layer apple slices on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Make the batter:
Beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Whisk dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add to wet mixture, alternating with milk.
Spread batter over apples.
Bake 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool 10–15 minutes, then flip onto a platter.
Serve warm with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or vanilla ice cream
